Yes, there are two major topics for the scientists (Charles Darwin or Gregor Mendel).
> Life History (in detail)
> Contribution to the scientific community/world (in detail)
You can write it with a general Introduction Paragraph followed by several Body Paragraphs covering the two topics above then complete it with a very nice Conclusion Paragraph.
Let me know if you have any further questions

What do we need to have on the extra credit essay?
Just about the life of Charles Darwin and his role in the scientific community/world.

Mr. Tate,
for project Green School, does it matter how we draw our building? I’m not the best at drawing and I’m sure a 5th grader can draw better than me.

OK, common areas in the desert:
Water Management: You want to make sure that you don’t waste any water and that you recapture or capture any water that lands on the walkways or paths. Check out these sites for Porous Concrete > Site 1 > Site 2 > Site 3 > Site 4.
Shade and energy capture: With so much space open to walkways there is a lot of surface area available for solar panels. Not only do they provide shade but, they also capture valuable energy for powering your school. You will also leave some areas uncovered and maybe even cover some areas with plants instead of solar panels. You can have the same, if not better, temperature management and add beauty to your school. Check out these sites on “living walls/roofs” > Site 1 > Site 2 >
*******************************************************
For the cafeteria, you may want to consider the living roofs as well. Not so much a permanent structure but, how beautiful would it be if the current shades were covered in beautiful plants?
School Gardens: School gardens not only provide food but, fun and education. What a great way to enter into the 21st century with knowledge about wholesome foods and healthy living and eating! Check out these sites for school gardens > Site 1
Waste and Recycling: You will need to consider the many pounds of waste generated every day by the kids at lunch and think of a safe and easy way for kids to separate their trash into glass, metal, paper, and compost. Do some research into recycling these things. This SITE might help a little
Hope this helps both of you and many others ….

Marisol,
I did a quick search and found only eco friendly bathrooms for the home but, here are some things that you can think about when designing a bathroom to be eco friendly.
Water usage and conservation: automatic toilets, sinks, and urinals. Waterless urinals in the boy’s restrooms. Low flow sinks that cannot be adjusted to flow with more water. You need toilets that flush powerfully because it is a public restroom but, who says the water has to come from clean water sources? All toilet water can have access to underground reservoirs where rainwater is collected and free rainwater is used before purchased water.
Building materials: Use recycled building materials anywhere you can from the tiles on the floors to the walls and dividers between toilets etc. Use lead free eco friendly paints to paint the restrooms.
Light and energy: Allow for the bathrooms to be lit via natural light all day using either high windows, skylights, or solar tubes. Each bathroom can use very little electricity and could probably run completely on one or two moderately sized solar panels.
These are just ideas to help guide your research. Please look up various terms in those to get the details and specifics that you will include in your descriptions.
Hope this helps

Alyssa,
Your drawing or 3-D design does not need to be as detailed as your description of it. Do your best as far as sketching your ideas but, provide a detailed, written description. If you have a lot of glass on the building to allow natural light in, you will need to worry about managing the amount of heat that comes through as well. That is why there are protective and solar window films that can be applied to the glass. Also, it is best to supply the building with low-e windows that trap or divert much of the heat energy.
With regard to what the science building needs; labs, bathrooms, workrooms for teachers, a greenhouse, a school garden, maybe a water distillation tower. Think about some other things that would be cool in teaching kids about how to care about and preserve nature
Hope this helps ~

Mr.Tate does it matter if the drawing for the green school project is detailed or not? What would the benefits be of having a building made out of glass and if i do use this idea would i be able to tint the glass so the amount of light that goes into the building is regulated? What components would you say the science and agriculture buildings need as a science teacher? Your insight and advice would be highly appreciated.

Yessenia,
You can go to the Extra Credit page on Biotate and print out the extra credit paper/summary. On there are the instructions for writing the summaries and I accept those on Fridays. You will also find links and widgets to cool science topics on both of the Extra Credit pages to write about.
Let me know if this does not help, ok?

How can we do extra credit, I kinda like forgot. How many points is it worth. Cause I like didn’t make up a failed quiz and I want to know if doing some extra credit could make up for it.

Numbers you are not supposed to complete for “Metric Mania” WS
3b, 7a, 7b, 18a, 18b, 21a, 21b
Basically the ones that require you to measure things or convert from F to C. We will be doing a measurement lab this week.
